Social Care – Further Improvements Secured for Salford Carers

The information below went out in an email to all Salford City UNISON members on Tuesday 9th June 2020.

For Urgent Attention of Members in Social Care

We are pleased to inform you that the attached letter  (see bottom of the page) has today gone out to all social care providers in the city.

As you will see when you read it (at point 3 particularly), it significantly increases the protection for frontline care workers who are not able to work due to Covid-19.

All providers are expected to abide by this document. If your employer is not doing so, please let us know immediately.

A key point to bear in mind is that any claim for reimbursements relating to periods prior to the week ending 17th May must be submitted by the 12th June, failure to do so could result in non-payment as could any further significant delays in the submission of claim forms. This means that if you have lost money as a result of Covid-19 related absence prior to 17th May, your employer must make a claim for this before this Friday. We would recommend that any members in this situation raise this with their employers immediately.

This agreement has been hard won. It is a testament to the success of our members and our activists in social care, particularly Julia, Melissa and Alexander (you know who you are). You have provided us with the view from the shop floor and have fought consistently for care workers. Without those efforts this would not have happened.

Take care and thank you for all you do.
