GMPF – Divest from Fossil Fuels

UNISON is committed to tackling the Climate Emergency and we are pushing all organisations that we have a relationship with to do the same.
You may not be aware, but a significant proportion of the pension fund for most of our members – the Greater Manchester Pension Fund (GMPF) – is invested in fossil fuels. This is not only bad for the environment, but for the sustainability of our pension fund itself.
GMPF claim they are committed to divestment, but isn’t happening quickly enough. This needs to change.
Please click on the link below and sign this petition. We want as many of our members in Salford to sign it, but we will be asking other UNISON branches to do the same. We also intend to put these demands to those standing in this year’s local and Mayoral elections.
Whether it is rising sea levels, loss of biodiversity, famine or air pollution damaging children’s lungs in our own city, the Climate Emergency must be tackled – and we don’t want our money being used to make it worse.
